It was raining. There were eggs for breakfast, but she didn’t like eggs. When she left the table but Mother said “you eat it.” Then she held her nose and ate it. Father and Oliver left the house. She wanted to go somewhere, but mother denied it. She painted a picture of the rain, all in purple. She likes purple. She tried some purple paint on her wall. It looked so nice that she painted a great big purple rain cloud. Mother was angry because Amanda painted on the wall.
For lunch mother made tomato soup. Also Amanda wanted to eat peanut butter. After lunch Amanda built a skyscraper, but it fell down, and she dressed up like a fancy lady, but mother said “is that my lipstick you are using?” Amanda answered “It is sad mad day”. She went into the living room and started dance, and she broken the lamp toppled. Mother said “that was my best lamp.” Amanda yelled that she didn’t care. Mother yelled back “well I do”. Then suddenly she stopped. She picked up Amanda and carried her to the big chair and hugged her, because she tried to stroke her. Mother told her “everyone has a bad day now and then.” Amanda said “I am glad I am here with you on my bad day.” Mother hugged Amanda some more. “Are you feeling better yet?” mother asked, and Amanda said “A little.” “Keep going.” Then they kept on hugging until the bad sad mad day went away.
This story makes me warm. When I was a child and had a bad sad mad day, my mother hugged me that way. I was getting fine. I remember that when I was reading this book.
